Latisse
Latisse is a great product that increases the length and volume of your eyelashes. Latisse is an FDA-approved, prescription medication that has been safely used by millions of women since 2008. In fact, it’s the only prescription product of its kind available. Latisse has become a very popular product in our Knoxville dermatology practice.
HOW IT WORKS
Latisse is a once-a-day product that you apply yourself to the base of your upper lashes. Latisse is believed to affect the growth phase of your eyelashes in two ways. One, it increases the duration of the growth phase. Two, it increases the number of eyelashes in the growth phase.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Longer, fuller, darker eyelashes don’t occur overnight. Latisse affects the growth of your eyelashes, so the effects are gradual, but striking. After starting Latisse, you need to continue to use it as directed every night for best results. And remember, if you stop using Latisse your eyelashes will gradually return to their original appearance. Most patients first notice an increase in the length of their eyelashes. Then, over time, your lashes will also become thicker and darker. You may start to notice results within a few weeks, but your best results won’t be seen until 16 weeks, so don’t stop early.
BEHIND THE RESEARCH
The Latisse clinical trial examined 278 participants in 16 cities. Participants were given either Latisse solution or a placebo. Neither the participants nor their physicians knew which treatment they were receiving, so the trial was a “double blind”, placebo-controlled trial, the gold standard of clinical trials. The participants were followed for four months. During the 16-week trial, participants were photographed and evaluated every four weeks. Investigators studied the length, fullness, and thickness of participants’ lashes. At the end of the trial, the results showed that Latisse improved lash length, fullness, and thickness in a full 78% of patients.
